The Cave 3

The Cave 3 from the ‘The Cave’ series was inspired by my visit to the Mermaid Cave in Thung Nham, Ninh Binh province in Vietnam. The natural sharp edges found in the cave were highlighted and in places distorted by the addition of artificial lighting.  Observing these natural forms and manipulating images representing the spectrum of colours and shapes resulted in this abstracted depiction of the cave. The intention was to portray a remarkable and beautiful example of nature interacting with colourful lighting, a human intervention. The wool used to create the background is recycled material sourced from a textiles manufacturer in Vietnam.
